This paper introduces a slightly modified version of semi-derived Hall algebra applicable to any hereditary abelian category which may not have enough projectives. There are shown the existence of natural linear basis, the algebra isomorphism to the Drinfeld double, and the structure theorem under the existence of tilting object.
