This paper investigates the relationship between the harmonic measure \(\omega\) for a domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}\) and the \(n\)-dimensional Riesz transform with respect to a measure \(\mu\) on \(\partial\Omega\) satisfying \(\mu (B(x,r))\leq Cr^{n}\) for all \(x\in \mathbb{R}^{n+1}\) and \(r>0\). The main result applies to general domains \(\Omega\) and shows that, provided \(\omega\) satisfies a certain scale-invariant \(A_{\infty}\)-type condition with respect to \(\mu\), the Riesz transform is bounded in \(L^{2}(\mu)\). The authors obtain a stronger result in the particular case where \(\Omega\) is a uniform domain by using a boundary Harnack principle of \textit{H. Aikawa} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 53, No. 1, 119--145 (2001; Zbl 0976.31002)] to obtain new estimates of harmonic measure for such domains.
