\textit{D. Yang} and \textit{Y. Zhou} [Math. Ann. 346, No. 2, 307--333 (2010; Zbl 1186.42012)] established a theory of local Hardy spaces on RD-spaces, i.e. on spaces of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss where a reverse doubling property holds. \textit{M. Taylor} [J. Geom. Anal. 19, No. 1, 137--190 (2009; Zbl 1189.46030)] considered a local Hardy space on a Riemann manifold \(M\) of bounded geometry. The authors develop a theory that works on a certain class of manifolds where the doubling property fails. Suppose that \((M,d,\mu)\) is a measured metric space which satisfies \textit{local doubling property} (LDP) and \textit{approximate midpoint property} (AMP). They define the local Hardy space \(h^1(M)\) and the local BMO space \(\mathrm{bmo}(M)\) and show that the dual space of \(h^1(M)\) is \(\mathrm{bmo}(M)\). They also show that \(L^p\) is a complex interpolation space between \(h^1(M)\) and \(\mathrm{bmo}(M)\). Applications to singular integral operators on Riemannian manifolds are given.
