Motivated by the lack of additivity closure of certain procedures with operator and polynomial ideals, the authors propose to study the concepts of operator germ and polynomial germ. They revisit some notions of their previous articles proving, for example, that what they called \(k\)-dual of a polynomial ideal results to be a polynomial germ and that a special operator ideal defined through composition with polynomials happens to be an operator germ. They also deal with the interaction of these structures with some properties of operator ideals, such as to be tensor stable, symmetric, regular, etc. In the final section, they prove polynomialized versions of some results on composition operators from [\textit{M. Lindström} and \textit{G. Schlüchtermann}, Math. Scand. 84, No. 2, 284--296 (1999; Zbl 0990.47057)].
