In this paper three different definitions of the notion of uniruled are given for affine varieties, and invariance under symplectomorphism is considered. The results are then applied to the log Kodaira dimension. The first definition states that an affine variety is uniruled if there is a positive integer and positive constant, and a Liouville domain such that every point of the interior of the domain is in the image of a holomorphic map from a genus zero Riemann surface having energy bounded by the constant and first homology bounded by the integer. The second definition requires that there is a morphism from \(P^1\) with a finite number of points deleted passing through any generic point. The third definition requires that the affine variety has a uniruled compactification so every irreducible component of a curve in the ruling meets the divisor at infinity in no more than a specified number of points. This number corresponds to the positive integer in the previous definitions. These definitions are related using tools of Gromov-Witten theory together with results from Hilbert schemes. One result is that a projective variety with an open affine variety that is diffeomorphic to an open affine variety of a uniruled projective variety is uniruled. Recall that the log Kodaira dimension of a quasiprojective variety is the maximum of the dimension of the image of a compactification into the projective space of holomorphic sections of tensor powers of the tensor product canonical bundle with the compactification divisor. The last result established here is that symplectomorphic acyclic smooth affine surfaces have the same log Kodaira dimension.
