The authors consider the first-order Hamiltonian system \(-J\dot{z}=H_z'(t,z)\) on \(\mathbb{R}^{2n}\). The Hamiltonian is required to be of class \(C^2\) and to be \(\tau\)-periodic in \(t\in\mathbb{R}\). The main results of the paper are concerned with the existence of non-constant subharmonic solutions, i.e., \(z(k\tau)=z(0)\) for some \(k\in\mathbb{N}\). The Hamiltonian may have simultaneously superquadratic, subquadratic and quadratic behavior in different components. The authors also provide conditions so that these solutions are geometrically distinct. The proof is based on variational methods, Maslov-type index theory, and the iteration inequalities due to \textit{Y. Long} and the second author [J. Differ. Equations 165, No. 2, 355--376 (2000; Zbl 0961.37017)].
