The paper addresses the rough initial conditions for the 1D compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The authors provide the existence of solutions for both the isentropic case (pressure is given as \(p(\rho) = A\rho^\nu\), \(A>0\), \(\nu\geq1\)) as well as for the ideal gas, i.e., \(p(\rho,\theta) = K\rho\theta\), \(K>0\), \(\theta\) being the gas temperature. The proof itself relies on the smoothing effect of parabolic equations. This allows authors to take the velocity from the space \(W^{2\gamma,1}\) for some \(\gamma>0\). The density is supposed to be close to 1 in the space \(L^1\cap BV\). In the case of the perfect gas, the authors expect that the initial temperature \(\theta_0\) is close to 1 in \(\dot W^{-\frac 23,\frac 65}\cap \dot W^{2\gamma-1,1}\). It is shown that the solution exists till an arbitrary time assuming the aforementioned norms \(\Verttheta_0-1\Vert\) to be small.
