The intensive study of Bergman kernels in complex geometry started with the paper of \textit{G. Tian} [J. Differ. Geom. 32, No. 1, 99--130 (1990; Zbl 0706.53036)]. The asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel reflects geometric information which plays a crucial role in Donaldson's work on cscK metrics. \textit{X. Ma} and \textit{G. Marinescu} gave a comprehensive discussion about Bergman kernels, Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and their applications in their book [Holomorphic Morse inequalities and Bergman kernels. Basel: Birkhäuser (2007; Zbl 1135.32001)]. The main approach of their book is the local index theory, especially the analytic localization techniques developed by \textit{J.-M. Bismut} and \textit{G. Lebeau} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 74, 1--297 (1991; Zbl 0784.32010)]. In this paper the authors establish an asymptotic version of Bismut's local family index theorem for the Bergman kernel, which is a significant progress. The authors combine the superconnection framework with the local index technique developed for Bergman kernels. They firstly establish a general asymptotic expansion for the curvature of the kernel bundle of a family of \(\operatorname{spin}^c\) Dirac operators, and then show that the curvature operator is a Toeplitz operator. A general and algorithmic way to compute the coefficients in the asymptotic expansion is obtained. They also establish a symplectic version concerning Toeplitz operators.
