Let \(\mathcal X\) be a complex Banach space and \(\mathcal B (\mathcal X)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators acting on \(\mathcal X\). Let \(T \in \mathcal B (\mathcal X)\). The Drazin inverse of \(T\), denoted by \(T^D\) is the unique operator \(S \in \mathcal B (\mathcal X)\) that satisfies \(T^{k+1}S = T^k,~STS = S,\) and \(TS=ST\). The least such \(k\) is called the index of \(T\). \(T\) is said to be Drazin invertible, if the Drazin inverse of \(T\) exists. If the index is one, then \(T^D\) is called the group inverse of \(T\). It is well known that \(T\) is Drazin invertible if and only if \(T\) has a finite index and that the group inverse of \(T\) exists if and only if the range space and the null space of \(T\) are complementary subspaces. Let \(Y\) be another complex Banach space and \(M \in \mathcal B (\mathcal X, \mathcal Y)\) be represented in the block operator form \(M=\begin{pmatrix} A & B\\ C & D\\ \end{pmatrix}\), where \(A \in \mathcal B (\mathcal X )\), \(B \in \mathcal B (\mathcal Y, \mathcal X),~C \in \mathcal B (\mathcal X, \mathcal Y)\) and \(D \in B (\mathcal Y )\). If \(A\) is invertible, then the Schur complement of \(M\) is given by \(S=D-CA^{-1}B\) . It is known that the generalized Schur complement \(S=D-CA^DB\), (provided that \(A\) is Drazin invertible) plays a crucial role in the representations of the Drazin inverse (and the group inverse) of \(M\). The authors establish explicit representations for the Drazin inverse and the group inverse of \(M\) under the case that \(S=D-CA^DB\) is Drazin invertible. The main Theorem extends certain known results.
