The doubly parabolic Keller-Segel system is considered in the whole space two-dimensional case. When the relaxation time \(\tau\) in the equation for evolution of the chemoattractant tends to infinity, the system formally becomes the parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel model. The authors study solvability of the full system in scaling invariant critical spaces of Bochner-Lebesgue type, and then show the convergence of solutions when \(\tau\to\infty\) using in essential way subtle maximal regularity pproperties of the heat semigroup. This approach permits them to obtain results for local in time solutions with large initial data, and global in time solutions with small initial data, and then to determine the initial layer. Admissible initial data are described in terms of homogeneous Besov and \(VMO\) spaces.
