The classical Minkowski problem, which was solved in 1938, asks the following question: given a finite Borel measure \(\mu \) on the unit sphere \(S^{n-1}\), under what conditions does there exist a unique (up to translation) convex body \(K\) with surface area measure \(\mu \) (in the sense that \(\mu (E)=H^{n-1}(g_{K}^{-1}(E))\), where \(g_{K}:\partial K\rightarrow S^{n-1}\) is the Gauss map). More recently, \textit{D. Jerison} [Acta Math. 176, No. 1, 1--47 (1996; Zbl 0880.35041)] solved the corresponding problem in which the surface area measure of \(K\) is replaced by its (Newtonian) capacitary distribution. In the present paper the authors provide a non-linear extension of Jerison's work to \(p\)-capacity. They establish a Hadamard variational formula and a uniqueness theorem for the Minkowski problem when \(1<p<n\), and provide existence and regularity results when \(1<p<2\). Jerison's work corresponds to the case where \(p=2\).
