For a finitary exact category \(\mathcal A\) with duality, the author considers the associated Hall algebra \(\mathcal H_{\mathcal A}\) and constructs a special \(\mathcal H_{\mathcal A}\)-module \(\mathcal M_{\mathcal A}\), called the \textit{Hall module}, which encodes the first order self-dual extensions in \(\mathcal A\). Hall modules arising from representations of quivers with involutions are studied in details. It is shown that such a module is, naturally, a module over the specialized reduced \(\sigma\)-analogue of the quantum Kac-Moody algebra attached to the quiver. For finite type quivers, the decomposition of the Hall module into irreducible highest weight modules is explicitly determined.
