Apéry-type series and colored multiple zeta values

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce and study new classes of Ap'ery-type series involving the multiple t-harmonic sums by combining the methods of iterated integral and Fourier--Legendre series expansions, where the multiple t-harmonic sums are a variation of multiple harmonic sums in which all the summation indices are restricted to odd numbers only. Our approach also enables us to generalize some old classes of Ap'ery-type series involving harmonic sums to those with products of harmonic sums and multiple t-harmonic sums. In all of these series, the central binomial coefficients appear as anpm1 or anpm2 where . We show that every such series can be expressed as either the real or the imaginary part of a mathbbQ-linear combination of colored multiple zeta values of level 4.

The primary goal of this paper is to study the explicit relations of Apéry-type series and colored multiple zeta values (CMZVs) by using the method of iterated integrals and Fourier-Legendre series expansions. In particular, the authors consider first the Fourier-Legendre series expansion of \(\log^m(x)\) (resp. \(\log^m(x)/\sqrt{x}\)) and obtain an expansion of their higher derivatives in terms of the multiple harmonic sums. Then, they show that some Apéry-type series can be expressed in terms of CMZVs. More precisely, it is shown that some multiple t-values (MtVs) and multiple \(t\)-star values (MtSVs) variants of Apéry-type series can be expressed in terms of CMZVs. Finally, using the theory of iterated integrals they prove few results for more general forms of variation of Apèry-type series involving products of multiple \(t\)-harmonic sums and multiple harmonic sums, and relate them to CMZVs of level \(2\) and level \(4\).
