The paper under review is a mixture of survey article and research announcement. In the paper, the author discusses instanton Floer homology for 3-manifolds with boundary and categorification of the Lagrangian Floer theory using the unobstructed immersed Lagrangian correspondence as a morphism in the category of symplectic manifolds. More precisely, the paper starts with an overview of invariants for 3- and 4-manifolds, i.e. Donaldson invariants, instanton Floer homology, relative Donaldson invariants. Then the author provides a review of Lagrangian Floer theory with emphasis on its application to gauge theory. In particular, he discusses the \(\mathcal A_{\infty}\)-structure in Lagrangian Floer theory and Lagrangian Floer theory for immersed Lagrangian submanifolds. Then the author gets to the instanton Floer homology for \(3\)-manifolds with boundary, Lagrangian correspondences and \(\mathcal A_{\infty}\)-functors. The final part of the paper concerns categorification of Donaldson-Floer theory.
