By using Pontryagin's maximum principle and a Hamiltonian structure, the author derives a system of differential equations for the geodesics of a left-invariant sub-Riemannian metric on a three-dimensional solvable Lie group. The author also considers the normal geodesics in terms of elliptic functions in the generic case.
