The authors study time-asymptotic stability of arbitrary (possibly large) amplitude noncharacteristic boundary layers of a class of hyperbolic-parabolic systems induding the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible gas and magnetohydrodynamics with inflow or outflow boundary conditions. They show that linear and nonlinear stability are both equivalent to an Evans functions or generalized spectral stability condition. They prove also the nonlinear stability of large-amplitude isentropic boundary layers. It is the first such result for compressive ``shock-type'' layers in other than the nearly-constant case. In the strictly parabolic case in the proof they use the Green function and its behaviour. In the hyperbolic case they use new technical approach based on the higher-order ``Friedrich's-type'' estimate, higher-order ``Kawashima type'' estimate and standard Friedrichs symmetrizer estimate. Basing on the Green function they obtain the time decay estimate for the linearized case and next they prove the local existence theorem in the nonlinear case. In the proof they use a contraction mapping argument. Basing on these results, they prove nonlinear stability and boundedness of solutions.
