This is an excellent survey on the recent developments of the strong moment theory and orthogonal Laurent polynomials and the related continued fractions, quadrature formulas integral transforms and linear functionals. Written by two leading experts, the paper reflects their many contributions to the field. The strong moment problem deals with the existence of a distribution function \(\psi\) such that \(\mu_n= \int_{-\infty}^\infty t^n d\psi(t)\), \(n=0, \pm 1, \pm 2,\dots\), where \(\{n\}_{n=-\infty}^\infty\) is a given sequence of real numbers. Historical remarks about the development of the classical moment theory and the related topics are given in the introduction. The inner product spaces of Laurent polynomials are introduced in Section 2. The Section 3 contains the definition of orthogonal Laurent polynomials, their recurrence relation properties the associated strong Gaussian quadrature and the main results on the orthonormal \(L\)-polynomials. In Section 4 are reviewed fundamental results on the quasi-orthogonal \(L\)-polynomials. In Section 5, the role of continued fractions in the development of the theory of strong moment problems is shown. Strong moment theory and classical moment theory are compared in Section 6. An exhaustive up-to-date list of 104 references completes this interesting and well-written survey.
