Any function \(f : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}\) such that \(f\restriction S\) is discontinuous for every \(S \subset \mathbb{R}\) of cardinality of \(\mathbb{R}\) is called \textit{Sierpiński-Zygmund function.} By \(SZ\) we denote the class of all Sierpiński-Zygmund functions from \(\mathbb{R}\) to \(\mathbb{R}\). In the present survey paper, the authors describe the current state of the art on the century old class \(SZ\). The paper is organized as follows. In Section 2, the Blumberg theorem and Sierpiński-Zygmund theorem are proved, and their possible generalizations are discussed. Section 3 deals with the algebraic genericity of the class \(SZ\), in especial with the lineability problems related to \(SZ\), which mean the finding of the largest possible algebraic structures contained in \(SZ \cup \{ 0 \}\) (in the sens of dimension or systems of generators). The notion of the cardinal coefficient known as additivity is also introduced and related to algebraic genericity. In Section 4, those \(SZ\)-functions are studied which belong to different classes of generalized continuous functions, mainly those known as Darboux-like classes. Finally, in Section 5 the behaviors of \(SZ\)-maps under the operations of product, composition, and inverse are presented.
