The author presents the solutions \(f,g : X\to\mathbb R\) of the functional equation \[ f(x+g(x)y)=f(x)f(y), \] which are continuous on rays of a real linear space \(X\). The introduction gives a brief and therefore necessarily incomplete history of this \textit{S. Gołąb} and \textit{A. Schinzel} equation [Publ.
