The paper contains a wealth of information and the list of references provided is extensive. It is recommended for anyone who is interested in a survey of many of the standard topics in ring and module theory or in recent results on skew-injective modules. The author calls a module \(M\) skew-injective if each endomorphism of a submodule of \(M\) can be extended to an endomorphism of \(M\). Skew-projective modules are defined dually. Many of the results on skew-injective modules presented in the survey are due to the author of the paper. The major topics covered in the survey are (1) closed and maximal submodules, (2) singular and non-singular modules, (3) projective modules, (4) injective modules, (5) regular rings, (6) injective hull and continuous modules, (7) finite dimensional and Noetherian rings, (8) maximal quotient rings, (9) cyclic \(\pi\)-injective modules, (10) invariant and integrally closed rings, (11) skew-injective rings, and (12) cyclic skew-injective modules. This reviewer knows of no single source where all of the material on the topics presented in the paper can be found. For this reason alone, the paper is of value to the mathematical community. One interesting question which seems not to have been addressed regarding skew-injective and skew-projective modules is the question of the existence and uniqueness of a skew-injective hull and of a skew-projective cover of a module.
