Time-dependent constrained systems are discussed in the framework of cosymplectic geometry, with a special view to time-dependent nonholonomic case. For this geometrical model a theory of reduction in presence of symmetry is proposed in analogy with a reduction scheme established by \textit{L. Bates} and \textit{J. Śniatycki} [Rep. Math. Phys. 32, No. 1, 99--115 (1993; Zbl 0798.58026)] for autonomous Hamiltonian systems with symmetry. Finally, a classification of constrained nonautonomous systems with symmetry is including, following a similar one introduced by \textit{A. M. Bloch}, et al. [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 136, No. 1, 21--99 (1996; Zbl 0886.70014)] for autonomous systems with linear or affine nonholonomic constraints.
