The paper starts by considering generalised Dirac systems, i.e., first-order systems with certain \(2p\times 2p\)-matrix functions in canonical block form. (For \(p=1\), they reduce to the Dirac operator with a scalar potential the inverse problem which was first discussed by \textit{M. G. Gasymov} and \textit{B. M. Levitan} [Sov. Math., Dokl. 7, 495--499 (1966); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 167, 967--970 (1966; Zbl 0168.12401)]). Drawing on a number of results from \textit{A. L. Sakhnovich} [Inverse Probl. 18, No. 2, 331--348 (2002; Zbl 1009.34079)], the authors derive a new formula which permits a locally bounded matrix potential to be recovered from a \(p\times p\)-matrix analogue of the Titchmarsh-Weyl \(m\)-function in a unique way. Next, more general Hamiltonian systems are considered which, when properly restricted in an intricate way too difficult to describe here, allow the recovery of the Hamiltonian in a similar way. There is also a section ``General formulas: examples'', but even this part is so general and technical that it is impossible to give the gist of the matter in a short review.
