The great German mathematician Felix Klein (1849--1925) emphasized the importance of intuition in geometry. He used the term \textit{anschauliche Geometrie} for a set of various papers that he wrote between 1873 and 1876 and were published as his collected works (1922).\N\NIn the paper under review, the author describes in detail in several sections Klein's collaborations with his teachers Plücker and Clebsch and his papers on classification of real cubic surfaces. There is much material in the paper of historic interest, with respect to not only Klein's contributions but also to other mathematicians correspondence' of the period such as Weber and Dedekind in regard to Riemann's publications.\N\NThis comprehensive, scholarly paper is richly illustrated, in the spirit of anschauliche Geometrie and the author explains why Klein's approach to surfaces is regarded by algebraic geometers of today as pioneering in modern deformation theory. After reading it, no scholar will ever think that Klein was not a modern mathematician, see [\textit{P. Heinig} et al., Antiq. Math. 17, 101--137 (2023; Zbl 1545.01023)].
