The paper is a survey on two local-global questions for divisibility in commutative algebraic groups. The authors study the following two questions: \begin{itemize} \item Let \(K\) be a number field, \(M_k\) be the set of places of \(K\), \(G\) be a commutative and connected algebraic group defined over \(K\), and \(q\) be a positive integer. Let \(\sigma\in H^r(K,G)\). If \(\sigma\) is divisible by \(q\) in \(H^r(K_\nu,G)\) for all but finitely \(\nu\in M_K\), can we conclude that \(\sigma\) is divisible by \(q\) in \(H^r(K,G)\)? \item Let \(K\) be a number field, \(A\) be an abelian variety of dimension \(1\) defined over \(K\), and \(p\) be a prime number. Are the elements of \(\Sha(K,A)\), when considered as elements of the Weil-Châtelet group \(H^1(K, A)\), divisible by \(p^l\) for all positive integers \(l\)? \end{itemize} The authors show the relation between the two questions, the known results on the topic, and some examples where the two questions have negative answers. They also explain why these questions are interesting and the classical problems from which these questions derive.
